A minor pentatonic root note 5th ] [ Am pentatonic C note ] [ Am at D ] [ Am at E ] [ Am at G ] [ Am root 17 ] [ Am open ] [ Am at the G ]

Once again, every 12 frets all of the notes along the fret-board repeat. The illustration below shows the notes of the Am pentatonic scale starting at the 3rd fret, G note. This position has the same fingering pattern and notes as that of the 15th fret position.

The fingering is as follows 1-3, 1-3, 1-4, 1-4, 1-3, 1-3 or you could use fingers 2-4, 2-4, 1-4, 1-4, 2-4, 2-4.

Look at the illustration below

The image above to the left illustrates the fingering that you use for this pattern. You start on the 3rd fret, 1 finger, Low E string. Then you move to the 5th fret 3 finger, Low E string. So far all of the positions have been explained in detail. You should be able to figure out how to work through this position. Remember, it is the same fingering as the 15th fret. All notes and scales repeat after 12 frets.

The tablature has been included below.

The illustration below shows the fingering pattern starting starting at the 15th Fret. Notice that this is the same pattern as the one starting on the 3rd fret. It has the same notes and fingering pattern.

The image above show the notes that make up this fingering pattern. G-A, C-D, E-G, A-C, D-E, G-A.

The illustration also shows this fingering pattern. 1-3, 1-3, 1-4, 1-4, 1-3, 1-3.

The tablature has been included below.

The illustration above shows the notes that make up the A minor pentatonic scale at the 15th fret. Notice that you start with the Low E string G note 15th fret and work your way down through the scale to the G note high E string 15th fret. Play this fingering pattern a couple hundred times or until you can play it non stop, without looking.

1 = index
2 = Middle
3 = Ring
4 = Pinkie
T = Thumb

Assignment:

  1. Use these blank fret-board illustrations to fill in the notes of the G position of the a minor pentatonic scale at the 3rd fret position.
  2. Fill in one illustration of the fingers used for the G position.
  3. Fill in one illustration of the notes used for the G position.
  4. Remember, the same fingering pattern repeats at the 15th fret

The next position for the A minor pentatonic scale is the 17th fret. That is the same fingering as the root note fret 5th fret position. We should go take a look at this position. We will also call this the root note fret, but it’s 12 frets higher. A minor pentatonic at the 17th fret A note.

Good Luck,
