Am pentatonic scale starting at the 17th fret
position
The illustration below shows the Am pentatonic scale starting at the
17th fret position. This position has the same notes and fingering pattern as the root note fret 5th fret position. As I mentioned earlier, the notes repeat them selves every 12 frets. This is not only true
with A minor pentatonic scale, but for every scale. The same goes for B minor, C minor, A major Pentatonic, B major and all
the other scales and chords.
Both positions of the 5th fret and 17th fret use the fingering
pattern of
1-4 1-3 1-3 1-3 1-4 1-4. And at
both positions the notes are A-C D-E G-A C-D
E-G A-C. This is a great
place to play lead over the chords in the key of Am or C major.

You should already have this finger pattern memorized
from working on the root note 5th fret. If you don't, I suggest you go
back and review. Play this pattern at the 17th
fret for a few hours and then learn the next position. The next position that we need to learn will be the
A minor pentatonic scale in the open
position.
Good Luck,
