Lead Guitar Made Easy

Blues and combining the scales to ROCK

There are times when the minor pentatonic scale is referred to as the blues scale. But, to play the blues scale we need to add one additional note. I would like to compare the Am pentatonic scale to that of the A blues scale.

The illustration to the left shows the Am pentatonic scale at the root note position. What I would like to do now is show you how to convert this scale to the A blues scale.

This illustration shows the suggested fingering for the A blues scale. Don't let this blues scale fool you, it is by far the most used scale in music today.

Good Luck,
