G Major pentatonic at the 3rd fret

G, A, B, D, E

Listen to G major pentatonic being played from the high G to the Low G. While the file is playing, strum the G major chord and see how that harmonizes with this scale. The audio file does not play the A note on the high E string as illustrated in the tablature.

Tablature Drum Track

Here's another G major pentatonic exercise to work on. Play it until you can play it smoothly, at least three times as fast as illustrated.

Listen to it here. Once you learn to play this, move it around to all the other pentatonic scales. Also, figure out how to play this using other fingering patterns of the G major pentatonic scale. Use the blank illustrations and fill in all the notes of the G major pentatonic scale. You should really do this with all the scales and exercises.

Illustration 3

Listen to this lead and electric guitar rhythm, the lead guitar is using the G major pentatonic scale in the upper image and then switches to the Em pentatonic scale in the open position. It then jumps to the 12 fret of the Em or G major scale.

Listen to just the rhythm alone, no lead. Play the G major pentatonic over the G and Em chord.

Practice the G major scale.

Practice the G major progressions and begin to incorporate this scale.

Good Luck,
